On Portfiolio and Performance Management

Portfolio and Performance management are relatively new topics in IT. On the Project Portfolio there are various excellent publications since the 80's. The Services Portfolio however gets our attention only since we started outsourcing on a big scale. Yet this is the main area of day to day decision making in IT, be it: coincidental or conscious, structured or free-format, based on a strategy or gut-feeling.

In the following series of articles I'll try to separte the 'main subjects' from the 'minor details' when it comes to decision making on (IT-) projects, IT services life-cycle management and out- or in-sourcing of IT services. I will not be exhaustive on this subject. I only mention the subjects from the last 20 years of practical experience in this field.
